Guardians protect and defend their faith by relying on respectful discussions.
“
A dog barks when his master is attacked. I would be a coward if I saw that God's truth is attacked and yet would remain silent.— John Calvin
Guardians seek to protect or defend faith. They do this by relying on respectful discussions. The purpose of the resultant exchange of ideas is to look at all sides of an issue. Guardians do this because they deeply believe one can only know the truth after reflecting on the different sides of a matter.
Guardians strive to witness by sharing their personal understanding of what they believe. Guardians try to make their values visible and understandable.
They always strive to name the principles underlying their thinking. For Guardians, it is important to use reason and evidence to present a compelling case for what they believe.
Guardians need reasoned arguments to justify or defend their theory of faith. ‘Arguments’ here means making a logical, reasoned case, not an argumentative style of debate. The task of Guardians is to develop and share arguments for the truth and rationality of the Christian faith and the falsehood and irrationality of alternatives. The aim is to strengthen the faith of believers and to convince nonbelievers to consider Christ. This is also called apologetics. Guardians can be greatly strengthened by studying books on classical and new apologetics.
Nurture and explore your faith. Make sense of how you believe, who you are and why you do things the way you do.
